2. Bodega Bay Surf Shack
You don’t think of Bodega Bay as a surfing hotspot in the North Bay, but owner and instructor Bob Miller has built an avid following centered around the Surf Shack. It’s stocked with boards, wet suits and equipment, all of which can be rented for daytrippers. But the real draw is Miller’s surfing instruction, which he provides for individuals as well as groups of up to six people. You can check out soft and hard longboards, bodyboards, kayaks and bicycles – and before you head for the coast visit the Surf Shack’s web site for links to surfing conditions and forecasts. Be sure to ask about Miller’s summer surf camp in Santa Cruz if you’ve got aspiring gremmies in the family. You’ll find the Surf Shack at 1400 Highway 1 in Pelican Plaza in the heart of Bodega Bay. 707.875.3944. www.bodegabaysurf.com.
